Start A Fund

Your charitable giving creates a more vibrant community, one where people have new opportunities to thrive.

Our mission is to be your foundation, creating a fund with you that gives you as much involvement as you want, while we manage the administrative side so that charitable giving can be joyful, satisfying, and fun.

As your foundation, we can:

  • Provide our research on issues and our practical knowledge of communities and how to get things done

  • Bring other like-minded donors and leaders to the table to partner with you for greater impact

  • Evaluate how you can best meet community needs so you don’t have to field requests from lots of individual organizations

  • Promote, screen, and manage any grants and scholarships you award

  • Guide you with expertise on investment types and timing that maximizes the tax benefits of your philanthropy

  • Create a multi-generational plan for giving that brings your family together with a shared vision for long-term community support

Keep It Local

Because we’re serving 11 counties as a deeply connected partner, we help you discover what’s needed, show you what’s worked, and share how charitable giving has made the Midlands better. We also know philanthropy isn’t just for the wealthy and that starting a fund is more than a smart tax decision.

Types of Funds

We offer a variety of funds for individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations. Our staff can discuss these options with you and help you select the fund that matches your charitable giving priorities and financial goals

Donor Advised Fund (DAF)

With one donation–and only one tax receipt–you can recommend grants to various charitable organizations. When you contribute cash, securities, or other assets, you are generally eligible for an immediate tax deduction. Funds can be invested for tax-free growth and can be endowed or non-endowed. The minimum to establish a Donor Advised Fund is $10,000

Designated Fund

You can choose one or several organizations to receive grants automatically from this type of fund every year in perpetuity. A hands-off approach to giving, the foundation manages the fund and distributes your grants. The minimum to establish a Designated Fund is $10,000.

Field-of-Interest Guide

With this fund, you support community needs by focusing on an area of interest such as the arts, education, human services, or youth. Grants are distributed through a competitive process managed by the foundation. The minimum to establish a Field-of-Interest Fund is $10,000.
